Do you want to know how to build an Outback plunge pool for cheap?
If so then read on and let me show you how to save thousands with an Outback Pool!
We recently purchased a pool this year and now know just about everything about them. We will cover the good the bad and our personal experience in this awesome review, read on!
Outback Plunge Pool Story (History)
Beau Rixon, an Aussie entrepreneur has developed a super sustainable, very simple and cost-effective plunge pool made of stainless steel. It looks just like a shiny old school rainwater tank but it is not!
The Outback Plunge Pool company was only founded back in 2022.
When we started looking into buying a pool for our place we researched all our different options such as:
- In-ground pools
- Container pools
- Plastic above ground pools
- Stainless steel plunge pools
After exploring prices, installation, site works, maintenance, labour and all the other extra costs, we decided upon the Outback Plunge Pool company.
Being a male I was hesitant, but my wife tipped me over with the basic setup costs, easy maintenance and style.
So we signed the forms and started the process.
Are Outback Plunge Pools Worth The Price!
The basic pools start at around $14,000 dollars without a liner, without steps / ladders or gadgets.
You will need to complete your site works or area for delivery of your desired size pool which is an other cost you will need to consider. (We built a slab for pool which cost me about $1000 dollars DIY)
The Plunge pools include the UV filter and pump ( you will need to buy pipes for connection) and a cover to stop leaves entering pool.
Pool liner is now included in the price but at time of our purchase the liner was an add on. Liner was another $1000 dollars but gave our pool another 17 year warranty.
What we didn’t realize is the installation of the liner was an extra $1000 plus and because I am not a plumber, we spent another $400 dollars on pipes and labour.
In the end the total cost for our pool was around $17,000 dollars. Today on their website the liner is now included so you are looking at a starting price for the smaller pool of about $17,000 plus any add-ons and your particular site costs.
Keep all that in mind before you commit. Hope I am helping with a smart purchasing decision here?
What Makes A Outback Plunge Pool So Good?
Is it the 316 Stainless Steel or COLORBOND shell? The Premium Waterproofing Liner? Or the thermal Insulation fittings and Hardware?
You can be the judge but we have found is they just look so darn stylish in the right backyard! Our pool came as the stainless steel model, 2.6meters diameter and 1.52 meters high.
This fits perfect next to my outdoor entertaining area and connects to my verandah with ease.
Another wild benefit is that when delivered, it can be rolled into place by hand without cranes or forklifts.
That’s awesome!
The Outback Plunge Pools are super easy to maintain. My wife and I are new to the pool game and are finding it pretty easy. We just put the cover that comes with pool on when not using it, add appropriate chemicals and clean out any leaves with the supplied tools. Takes on average 5-10 minutes to keep clean.
And yes it comes with a UV filter pump all set up, all you need to do is attach the pipe work to the pool from the pumps depending on your skill set. (We just hired a pool guy to install this for about $400 bucks!
Are Outback Plunge Pools Worth It?
They definitly are! The Outback plunge pool is a very cost effective way to owning a pool.
Outback pools do have a heap of add ons and upsells that you can take up, but depending on your situation you can leave these out. The whole family loves swimming in our new pool, it is nice and deep, easy to clean and fits our huge family of 6.
We don’t even have the big one!
Our family have owned our pool for about 4 months, it was bought back when the liner was an extra. Now they include the liner with the extra price tag on top.
Outback pools are a growing company, so they naturally are going to have some teething problems. Our small hicup was the liner.
After a massive down pour of rain oneday, the water got in behind the liner and the stainless steel pool shell causing it to fill up on the wrong side. But Outback were very quick to respond to our calls for help and sent their technichian to fix it up.
Now days they seal the liner better and have a small tap in the side to allow the water to escape.
If you don’t want to break the bank buying a pool, I would fully recommend the Outback Plunge Pool experience.
What Makes The Outback Plunge Pool So Good?
In our opinion what makes the Outback Plunge Pool so good is:
- Price for one! You can get a pool for under $20,000 dollars on your block
- Easy installation and site setup costs. Your Outback plunge pool is delivered by truck and just rolled into position. (Depending on block and area pool will be installed)
- Stainless Steel construction, well made and tough. The pool has a rolled top around the rim and is really smooth.
- Quick and cheap to fill with water.
- Pool pump comes in one unit and is a plug and play system. Uses a UV filter.
- Internal liner is smooth and soft, feels nice to touch while swimming.
- Looks stylish and dresses up your outdoor area.
- Very easy to maintain. Our pool is near alot of trees so gets many leaves, takes me minutes to clean
- Uses minimal chemicals, basically fresh water almost. (I spend around $50.00 dollars a month on chemicals.
- Power consumption is low compared with regular pools, runs around 4-6 hours a day.
- Comes with a 20 year warranty with liner installed
- Great, prompt service, they value their customers needs and concerns.

Common Plunge Pool Questions The Public Have!
Do Plunge pools crack?
An uneven surface or slab could cause problems with your pool, so make sure you build the correct base for your pool.
Are Plunge pools cheaper?
Yes! They cheaper than regular pools.
What are the disadvantages of a plunge pool?
The size and depth of a plunge pool limit the types of activities that it can accommodate. While a plunge pool is ideal for water aerobics, they’re often too small for swimming laps.
They are too shallow for diving and cannon balls. (but you can try!)
Are plunge pools worth it?
Plunge pools require a lot less water, less energy to heat, and less chemicals to maintain. All three of these factors reduce your environmental impact and that is awesome.

Thanks Kristen! We have had one for about 9 months now and they are so easy to maintain and look great.
At the moment the water is too cold for swimming, but it is really cheap to run compared with other pool types.
If you want to know more just yell out! Cheers, Brian.
